Woman's bag stolen as she helps crash victim

A GOOD Samaritan who stopped to help a motorcycle accident victim told today of her fury at having her handbag stolen while she gave first aid.

Mother-of-two Sarah Nielsen rushed to help a woman who had been thrown into a parked car when two motorcycles crashed in Camden High Street.

Carrying her 21-month-old daughter Elsa, she dialled 999 and began to follow instructions given to her by the operator.

She said: "The biker was conscious but she was bleeding. She wasn't talking and was incredibly shocked."

But as she was helping, a thief stole her handbag from her daughter's pushchair where she had left it after the accident on Tuesday morning. She only realised the bag was gone when the ambulance arrived. "I was just two metres away and there were lots of people around. It had all my credit cards in it and my door keys. I had to call out a locksmith which cost nearly £400.

"The purse inside had sentimental value - my mother sent it to me from Australia when I had my first child."

A spokeswoman for Camden police said: "Here's an example of someone who has done the right thing and it's sad that someone decided to steal from her."
