London based Instagrammers will feature in Glamour’s upcoming issue in a first time move that has seen the magazine shun models.
The monthly glossy turned to the photo sharing app in search of readers for a shoot to represent the British beauty scene.
Eighteen Londoners were chosen among the lucky few, including vlogger Jordan Pritchett, make-up artist Connie Simmonds and beauty blogger Elle McNamara who said true beauty is “embracing what you’ve been given”.
A medical student, a plus-size model, a baker and a tunnel engineer also star.
Editor Jo Elvin said she was “proud” of the final group and confirmed despite the difficulty in whittling down the applicants, she will be doing another Instagram takeover in the future.
She told the Standard: “I’m so proud of the diverse crowd that unites to identify themselves as Glamour’s fans. So for the issue dedicated to Instagram, we put the call out amongst our followers that we were casting for this very special shoot.
“And as Glamour’s audience is always so wonderfully engaged and responsive, we were spoilt for choice and have an incredible portfolio that celebrates British Beauty.”
The group, which features one man, were shot by celebrity photographer Simon Emmett whose portfolio includes Eddie Redmayne, Adele and Sir Ian McKellen.
Kate Moss, Gigi Hadid and Elizabeth Taylor were hailed as beauty icons by some while others praised their mothers for inspiring them.
