Charlotte Figg and Purdy Rubin want to solve the problem plaguing the nation’s hands: red, dry, scaly skin from weeks of excessive hand-washing.
Their more caring solution? A bacteria-busting, moisturising spray that’s lighter and kinder to your skin than the sticky, dehydrating gels you used to not be able to find on an empty shelf in Boots. Happily, it smells better too: the magic formula contains a natural mix of sweet orange, niaouli and pink grapefruit.
The hero blend is the result of two years of testing in Rubin’s garage-laboratory in Buckinghamshire.
The NHS nurse and her best friend Figg, a horticulturalist, teamed up to launch their natural cleaning potion business Purdy & Figg in 2018 as part of a shared mission to reduce the number of toxic chemicals and single-use plastic we use in skincare.
Their homegrown solution is proven to kill 99.99 per cent of bacteria and is scented with 100 per cent pure essential oils, and though it started out as a handbag-essential for cold and flu season, it has quickly become a potentially lifesaving hero of the pandemic.
Together with Rubin’s sons Charlie and Jack, the duo are now into full production of their sanitiser at a bottling plant in Tottenham and donating care packs to NHS workers keeping the nation safe.
