In a new interview for the Artist Spotlight Stories on YouTube, popstar Halsey and licensed therapist Dr. Snehi Kapur have a candid conversation about mental health.

The video is part of a fundraiser for The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA), a national organization focusing on mood disorders.

In the interview, Halsey talked about her experiences making her latest album, Manic, as well as the media's response to her career.

The popstar said, “The media is very celebratory of mental illness when they’re getting something out of it...but then if it takes something from them, if I can’t do a show or if I can’t do an appearance, then it becomes weaponized in that way. The way that they can take the narrative away from you after you’ve chosen to share it is one of the most terrifying parts."

She famously has had issues with the media in the past - including when she notoriously accidentally tweeted "can the basement that they run p*tchfork out of just collapse already," not realizing that Pitchfork is owned by Condé Nast and the headquarters are in One World Trade.

She went on to say, “I think that our culture in a way has an obsession and a distaste for the ‘crazy woman.’ We love her but we also weaponize that word against her."

Halsey, 25, is a noted feminist who gave a moving speech at the 2018 Women's March. She said, “Allowing women to be less than perfect and less than ideal and poised and composed so that they can reach a diagnosis and have a better life."

She also spoke about past romantic relationships. The singer has dated Yungblud, G-Eazy and others. She said, “There’s nothing more devastating than putting yourself out there and wanting to connect with someone and then them not accepting you for who you are."
