Jennifer Lopez is just as confused about homeschooling as you are

'Have you seen the math they make the kids do now?'

Jennifer Lopez might be self-isolating poolside in Los Angeles, but the triple threat singer, dancer and actress showed her quarantine routine is a little more relatable than you thought.

On Tuesday, J.Lo called into The Ellen DeGeneres Show to promote her new show on Quibi, Thanks A Million. But the talk show host had a few other important questions in mind before getting down to business.

J.Lo was dressed up for the occasion, but she confirmed to DeGeneres that she’s been taking many of her Zoom calls in a more relaxed look. “I have done a lot of meetings in pajamas,” the 50-year-old confessed, which haven't we all?

After Lopez mentioned that she’s been enjoying having some time off from work (with her fiancé Alex Rodriguez, his two daughters from a previous marriage and her twins from a previous marriage), DeGeneres reminded her that it isn’t all relaxing all the time when she brought up the question of homeschooling.

“I help with the homework,” Lopez said. “All four kids are doing virtual school right now, so I stay more on top of Emme and Max about that,” she said of her 12-year-old twins, stressing, “Yeah, me.”

When DeGeneres asked Lopez how she was finding it, the ‘Jenny From The Block’ singer didn’t hold back. “Honestly, I think we’re all like, ‘What is this?’” she animatedly confessed. “Have you seen the math they make the kids do now?” she questioned DeGeneres. “It’s a new math, Ells Bells, it’s a new math. It’s crazy, and so half the time I’m like, ‘Okay, yeah let’s look up that word - what does that mean?’ It’s been an experience for sure,” she added with a laugh.

As for what else J.Lo and her social distancing squad have been doing to stay entertained, DeGeneres brought up that viral Tik Tok video of Lopez and Rodriguez swapping clothes for the Flip The Switch challenge.

“I want to ask how you had things that even fit Alex? I assume that was your idea,” DeGeneres said to Lopez, referring to the video. “Listen, the kids are always trying to get us on Tik Tok,” Lopez explained, noting that while she enjoys it, Rodriguez is often a tougher sell.

“I remember it was one of the last times we went out to dinner, about a month ago or whenever it was, and we came back, and I had seen that challenge somewhere. I was like, ‘There’s one where we switch clothes. My dress is stretchy, I think it can fit you. Why don’t we do that one?’ And the girls were like, ‘Yeah, let’s do it.’ So we did it, and it was so much fun - it was hilarious,” she recalled.

DeGeneres even tried to convince Lopez and Rodriguez to go for a Tik Tok wedding now that coronavirus had put their plans on hold. “It’s something to think about,” Lopez said through laughter after a very long pause. “I can’t make any commitments right now.”

Joking aside, Lopez went on to discuss the importance of giving back during the coronavirus pandemic, noting that she and Rodriguez had donated one million meals to those in need through Wheels Up and Feeding America, with more charitable plans in the works.

“It’s a privileged place to be able to help, and so that’s what we want to do right now,” Lopez told DeGeneres. “You realize with this kind of sudden imposed loss of freedom, where we can’t see each other and we can’t go places, how much we need each other. And that’s what’s been on my mind a lot lately."
