Naomi Campbell says she is looking forward to turning 50 next year — and she thinks it “sounds cool” to say she’s entering her sixth decade.

The supermodel told Insider few people believe she’s reaching the milestone and didn’t have any specific plans to celebrate as she didn’t want to “plan my own birthday”.

Campbell said another “fun” benefit of her age was she now worked with her friends’ children — including Kaia Gerber, the daughter of Cindy Crawford.

The model, pictured at the launch of her charity Fashion For Relief clothes pop-up at Westfield London last night, said: “I am looking forward to turning 50. I don’t know what I will do, I am in two minds. I don’t know if I want to be planning my own birthday. It actually sounds cool to say I am going to be 50. Nobody believes me.”

Discussing working with the next generation of models, including during the Saint Laurent show in Paris this September, Campbell said: “I came off the runway at Saint Laurent and who is waiting for me? Kaia [Gerber] and Adut [Akech]. They were like ‘Mama you did so good!!’”

She added: “They are my babies.”

The supermodel spoke about diversity in fashion, and said change was needed at the highest level.

Campbell said: “We have to be honest here and say change goes far beyond the fashion shows, the magazine covers, just having someone of diversity on your pay roll. We need that person of diversity in the [boardroom] seat.”

The model’s Fashion For Relief pop-up will sell donated designer items such as Fendi and Chanel to raise money for the Mayor’s Fund for London and its associated educational projects.
