Reese Witherspoon has started a new meme, prompting her famous friends to get in on the action.

There's no denying 2020 has been a...difficult year so far, most notably due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic which has forced most countries across the world into lockdown in a bid to curb the spread.

And while the virus itself is no laughing matter, many have sought to alleviate some of the stress and downright absurdity brought about by lockdown via comedy.

Never one to miss a meme opportunity, Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon now has perfectly encapsulated the situation with a hilarious meme, using stills from shows and movies she's starred in to reflect people's mood progression (or, rather, deterioration) throughout lockdown.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, the Big Little Lies star posted a photo, including iconic looks from Legally Blonde, Little Fires Everywhere and, finally, Wild, captioning the post: "Yup. #2020".

Naturally, her star-studded posse also got in on the action and started recreating the meme using their own acting portfolios.

Here are some of the best...

Kerry Washington

Viola Davis

Mindy Kaling

Cara Delevingne

Jennifer Garner

Elizabeth Banks

Karlie Kloss

Kate Beckinsale

Even streaming giants got involved...

It's not the first time celebs have prompted a wave of memes, though; country singer Dolly Parton, who is a big inspiration for Witherspoon, previously started the viral LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram and Tinder meme back in January of this year.

This week, Debby Ryan also made a nod to the hugely popular meme based on her scene from her 2012 movie, Radio Rebel, as the star went viral with her 'Fashion Week' TikTok video.
