While The BAFTAs may be an evening dedicated to celebrating the moving on-screen image, the underlying competition lies in an altogether more 3-dimensional art... the best-dressed lists.

With designers keen to kit out the A-listers at the prestigious event, it is down to the red-carpet-wanderers to decide whose handiwork to flaunt (poor souls). Here is our pick of the ladies who chose wisely.

One of our favourite looks from the evening came from the lovely Laura Bailey, who's voluminous white Emilia Wickstead gown gave the petite model a more substantial frame without drowning her. Keeping her hair tied back in a sleek up-do, the blonde beauty gave her eyes a dramatic smoky-effect while keeping her jewellery to a minimum.

Another simple yet stand-out style came from Benedict Cumberbatch's pregnant fiancée Sophie Hunter, who looked undeniably elegant in the full length a-line Maison Martin Margiela black gown. With a peep-hole split at the neckline and stand-out diamond earrings, all attention was on the beauty's sheer complexion and bright blue eyes. Her other-half didn't let the side down either, in a bespoke tuxedo by Alexander McQueen and a midnight blue bow tie.
