As the world’s biggest luxury super brand, Chanel is renowned for its out of this world fashion.

This morning at a catwalk staged on the final morning of Paris Fashion Week the house chose to boldly go where no fashion house has gone before with a showcase inspired by space travel.

The spectacle took place within the "Centre De Lancement No 5" - a makeshift space station positioned in the centre of the Grand Palais.

An enormous rocket, reminiscent of the Earth observation satellite which lifted off atop a Vega rocket from Europe’s space port in French Guiana in the early hours, provided a focal point for a showcase in which metallic quilted coats and white funnel neck shift dresses were unveiled.

At the close of the show, with white smoke sweeping along the front row and the sounds of Elton John’s Rocket Man filling the Grand Palais, the Chanel space craft was raised into the air.

Led by Kendall Jenner, Karl Lagerfeld’s impeccably presented astronauts launched the house’s offering for next season.

There was no sign of Richard Branson red on offer here, instead bacofoil metallics prevailed as the designer presented a new take on the Chanel boucle suit.

Featuring necklines reminiscent of space suits, jackets were laden with glistening galaxy motifs while skirts were replaced with knee length city shorts.

In order to keep the body protected from the chill of Mars, silver stardust moon boots with contrasting toes and wrist warmers branded with the Chanel logo also featured.

With his oversized dogstooth overcoats and twee shift dresses, Lagerfeld delivered pieces befitting the fashion house’s DNA. But looking to a galaxy far, far away proved fruitful when it came to breaking new ground.

Hooded sweatshirts boasting astronaut logos and planet print sheath dresses are among Chanel’s latest options for youthful space cowboys. The designer also looked to welcome men on his intergalactic adventure debuting a host of menswear looks as part of this ready to wear collection.
