Cry-baby eyes
Colour lovers will be enamoured of this season's ultra-bright eyeshadows but the trend for red lids will leave many looking a sight of - rather than for - sore eyes. From fiery fuchsias at Richard Chai to the tangerine tinge at Marni, angry, itchy-looking hues made the cry-baby look one to covet. To create the eye without the tears, use a damp brush to intensify a bold sweep and extend your shadow down to the inner-eye for a well-rubbed look.
Corpse lips
Red is dead. The lipstick of choice for this season's pout? Skintone. Lips were drained of their usual pretty pink hue at David Koma, Hakaan and Jil Sander in favour of a pale and interesting beige that wouldn't look out of place in a mortuary. Gareth Pugh for Mac has the perfect fleshy tone, or simply multi-task your foundation to work the cold-blooded look.
Chip-pan hair
Greasy, unkempt hair - known in the business as "wet look" - was big news on the spring/summer catwalks. At Sportmax, hair-stylists coated the locks of coiffured models with sticky wax and gel to get the desired effect. Should you want to try this look at home, we suggest applying mousse to damp hair. If that fails, you could always douse your tresses in vegetable oil.
The monobrow
Frida Kahlo, eat your heart out: a thick, unruly brow (yes, just one) is all the rage for girls this spring. Already in favour with a number of beauty enthusiasts, heavy brows will be a big hit with anyone who wants to make a lasting impression. For the most extreme incarnation of this look, visit avant-garde wig-maker Charlie Le Mindu, who applied eyebrow toupees to the brow lines of the models who walked in his show.
The bird beak

Step away from the dentist, especially if the man in white's plan is to shove a kilo of veneer into your mouth. For 2012, a crooked smile is the toast of the beauty editors. Championed by models Georgia May Jagger and Lara Stone, whose gap-toothed grins have put imperfect dentistry on the fashion map, a slightly wonky grin is everything a Hollywood smile isn't: the real deal.
