Grammy Awards 2015: weird and... wonderful? The stars who stood out in the style (mi)stakes

While there were some extravaganzas that we're unsure of, there are some that we think were surely errors of judgement

Where there's a pick of the best, there has to be a selection of the worst, and unfortunately for the likes of Madonna, Jane Fonda and Rihanna, several jaws were dropped at the Grammys for all the wrong reasons.

First up, we have to question Joy Villa. Or her stylist, if there was one. Either way, this bright orange plastic-fence-inspired gown (...if you can call it one of those) just doesn't seem appropriate for the red carpet. Nor does is seem comfortable. Or flattering. We're baffled.

Madonna was another lady who went all-out for the shock factor, as ever, and if we're honest it's growing a little tiresome. For a beautiful and undeniably talented 56-year-old woman, there is so much more about Madonna that we should all be talking about, but instead we can't look past her overly-provocative, uncomfortable-to-look-at, latex and lace style choices that she can't seem to resist.

Rihanna was a tough one this year, and while we expected - and indeed looked forward to - an over-the-top number, this sickly sweet ruffly number with layers and layers of frothy material was the wrong kind of statement. A so-nearly-good idea, the Giambattista Valli creation could perhaps have benefited from one or two fewer layers. That said, facially, she remained flawless.

Charli XCX fell off the mark with the Moschino tuxedo, which could've been more appealing if she had gone for a less ruffly blouse or stepped away the bow-tie and fur shrug. 'Chaos' springs to mind.

Speaking of which, Kaya Jones' black ruffled number was far too busy for her small frame, while Jenny Lewis' multicoloured flared trouser suit - paired with the sunglasses - was altogether too bizarre for a red carpet.

Jane Fonda, while she may have a phenomenal figure, did not do herself justice in the flared green jumpsuit. The navy waist-belt looked uncomfortable while the gold, fringed necklace was enormously extravagant for an already-statement look.

Meghan Trainor, Mica Levi and Pauley Perrette also missed the mark with their all-black outfits, as Mica looked more ready for a storm than a ceremony in a waterproof full-length raincoat. Meghan's gown had an uncomfortably morbid feel about it with the black lace-embroidered overlay and Pauley's dress would have been better-suited to a club night. Ten years ago.
