As the fashion pack prepare to descend upon London for its bi-annual Fashion Week, it would appear there are a few surprises in store.

Taking the baton from New York Fashion Week, London’s edition, which is showing the Spring/Summer 2020 collections, promises a packed schedule of fresh, innovative and creative talent.

With a no-deal Brexit looming, which could see the UK fashion industry lose £900 million, and a general shift towards of a focus on sustainability, this season promises to be eventful.

Already, Extinction Rebellion protestors have staged a 'die-in' outside the main show space by dousing themselves in fake blood.

Here's what to expect from London Fashion Week, although, if we've learnt anything, it's to expect the unexpected.

Extinction Rebellion plans to disrupt all five days of London Fashion Week in order to highlight the industry's carbon footprint and contribution to climate change.

Beginning with a 'die-in' outside the show space on the Strand and culminating in a ‘funeral procession’ on Tuesday 17, the environmental group is calling its prolonged protest London Fashion Week: Rest in Peace.

Naomi Campbell’s Fashion for Relief returns to London

Having flirted with hosting the show in New York and Moscow, supermodel and founder of Fashion for Relief Naomi Campbell is bringing her annual gala show back to its hometown.

Since it was founded in 2005, the organisation has raised £13 million for natural disaster relief, while this year proceeds raised from the event will go to the Mayor's Fund for London and UNICEF.

Campbell never fails to inject an element of surprise into her shows and it's thought that this year's extravaganza, which is being held on Saturday 14, will be no exception.

There will be a few familiar faces missing

Both Mary Katranzou and Peter Pilotto have made the bold, and seemingly very intentional, decision to move their shows from London to different locations in Europe. Seen by some as a revolt against Brexit, Katranzou will instead be showing at the Temple of Poseidon in Athens, while Pilotto has moved his show to Milan.

Skipping proceedings entirely this year are Ashley Williams and Asai, while Meghan Markle's favourite Grace Wales Bonner has foregone a show in favour of private appointments.

New kids on the block

When one door closes, another opens. And in through this door flocks a plethora of new talent, ready to take the industry by storm. Bobby Abley, who is Jeremy Scott's protege, is showing at London Fashion Week for the first time and so too are Eftychia, a brand known for its tailoring, and Apujan, a designer known for her knitwear.

As part of the British Fashion Council's partnership with Seoul Fashion Week, Korean brand YCH is also making its London debut.

'It' jewellery brand lands a slot

Cult jewellery brand London Fashion Week debut
Alighieri

Alighieri has become notorious amongst the cool-girls of Insta for its ethereal jewellery, and now is cementing its status with the brand's first presentation at London Fashion Week.

The jewellery is designed and hand-crafted by the brand's founder, Rosh Mahtani, in London, and when speaking of the presentation, she told Vogue: "We thought very carefully about how the audience will be close to the jewellery, and the moments will allow people to see the jewellery [from many angles] and understand its story.

"I always set out to create a narrative—a person’s jewellery is a microcosm of their adventures and sentiments. I’ve been wanting to tell this story in motion ever since I started the brand, and Alighieri turned five this year, and I turned 30, so it felt like the perfect time to bring it to fruition.”

Victoria Beckham Beauty

Following the tenth anniversary of her brand last year, it seems there's very little that the matriarch of Brand Beckham can't turn into gold dust.

London Fashion Week will see VB launch her hotly-anticipated beauty brand, Victoria Beckham Beauty on Saturday 14. Little is known about the brand as a whole, but if the teasers on Instagram are anything to go by, we can expect lots of #CleanBeauty products from #VBBeauty.
