As we draw closer to the start of a new decade (2020, here we come), it seems as good a time as any to reflect upon the sartorial hallmarks of the last ten years.
And according to global fashion search platform Lyst's Decade in Fashion Report, which was released today, we've certainly been infactuated with some interesting pieces.
In 2010, the death of the designer Lee Alexander McQueen saw a 1400 per cent increase in sales of his eponymous brand's skull scarves, while 2016 was the year of Vetements' polarising collaboration with courier service DHL, which became the fashion story of the year.
Dior's "We Should All Be Feminists" t-shirt meanwhile became 2017's most wanted item, with searches for "slogan t-shirts" increasing 105 per cent in the years since.
The Brand of the Year at this year's Fashion Awards, Bottega Veneta, was named as 2019's breakout brand of the year, with searches for its Stretch sandals increasing by 53 per cent year on year.
Elsewhere in the report, Rihanna was named as 2012's most influential fashionista, while Meghan Markle was 2019's.
To compile its reports, Lyst analyses the online shopping behaviour of more than nine million shoppers a month searching, browsing and buying fashion across 12,000 designers and stores online. The report also factors in Google search data and social media metrics, taking into account brand follower growth and multi-platform mentions of products, as well as engagement statistics worldwide.
