Marilyn Monroe would be turning 90 today, and despite having passed away at just 36-years-old she remains to this day the very definition of Hollywood glamour.

Wildly popular thanks to her feminine curves and iconic blonde hair, the actress and model became one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s as well as an inspiration for young women.

Having gone on to influence generations thanks to her aesthetic, she has also inspired many due to her pearls of wisdom. However it seems that the popularity of many of Monroe's 'quotes' may be somewhat misguided.

Phrases said to have been uttered by the blonde bombshell have gone on to be quoted and mis-quoted for generations, distorting the star's legacy and often portraying a mean-spirited - and often catty - version of the determined and witty actress.

7. "I'm pretty but I'm not beautiful. I sin but I'm not the devil. I'm good but I'm not an angel" - Alona Kimhi (paraphrased)
