Rihanna is a familiar face at Paris Fashion Week. But this time the Barbadian superstar swapped the front row for the catwalk, unveiling her sophomore Fenty Puma collection.

Returning to her side line career as a fashion designer last night - a project facilitated by sports giant Puma and named Fenty after the singer's little used surname - the star enlisted a slew of top models in a show watched by a small audience of industry insiders.

Her affection for streetwear with a sexy swagger was apparent throughout with a host of oversized hoodies worn as dresses, lacy negligees playsuits and corset-waist tracksuit pants.

Shades of nude, mint, powder pink and lilac softened an otherwise tough collection of heavy-duty bomber jackets, polo shirts and boxing shorts, while male fans were treated to an array of string vests and parachute parkas.

Rihanna also took a turn on the catwalk, wearing a pale pink broderie anglaise tracksuit from the collection to take her bow.

Having showcased her first collection for Puma at New York Fashion Week in February, the decision to move the show to Paris suggested a determination on Rihanna's part to win over the high fashion crowd.

“It’s a dream for me to be able to present my second collection of Fenty Puma by Rihanna in Paris,” the singer said ahead of the show. “I approached this season very differently and felt the theme and concept was best suited for one of my favourite cities, Paris.”

The show - a more intimate affair than the big-budget blow out in New York - was held in the chambers of Paris’s grand Hotel Salomon de Rothschild with every attendee given a front row seat.

Of course, the collection's real clout lies in its designer with the star-power required to ensure it sells like hotcakes.

Key items from her previous collection, such as the creeper-sole trainers and fur slides, sold out within minutes of going on sale. The German company also attributed a 11.5 per cent rise in sales in the fourth-quarter to its celebrity endorsement which boosted its standing in the female consumer market.

Giving Kanye’s Yeezy collection a run for its money as far as creating hysteria among the street-wise Instagram-generation is concerned, there was plenty on offer for next season’s Fenty enthusiast.

Among the key items guaranteed to generate waiting lists were a pair of silk tie-front pool slides and a host of Fenty logo hoodies, while one floral satin bomber is set to win over followers of fashion too.
