The best viral moments of the 2021 Golden Globes

From Jason Sudeikis’ peak WFH look to Colin Farrell’s patchy eyebrows, the Globes provided plenty of meme-fodder

Last night’s Golden Globes may have been virtual, but nothing will stop Twitter in its meme-sourcing tracks. And for that, we’re truly grateful.

Here are the best moments from the night...

Jeff Daniels in his spare room

Whilst there was no shortage of glamour at the awards with virtual (and socially distanced) red carpet looks still aplenty, Jeff Daniels took a more laid-back approach, wearing a flannel shirt with a chic backdrop of crumpled bedsheets. ‘In awe of Jeff Daniels’ ‘dad zooming in from the spare room vibe’’ one Twitter user commented.

Bill Murray’s shirt and martini combo

Sprawling LA backdrop? Check. Hawaiian shirt? On. Martini? Firmly in hand. Bill Murray achieved the ‘I’ve worked from home for too long and now I don’t care’ look that we can only dream about from our cramped London flats – but we forgive him. It’s Bill Murray!

Colin Farrell’s eyebrows

Whilst Colin Farrell can do no wrong, we can’t say the same for his patchy facial hair, which raised a lot of eyebrows (sorry) on social media following his Zoom appearance. ‘Colin Farrell’s all of us who tried that one time to wax our own eyebrows’ said one tweet. Don’t worry Colin, they’ll grow back.

Jason Sudeikis and his hoodie

‘Jason Sudeikis serving my wife just left me for Harry Styles’ just about sums it up. The tie-dye hoodie, the moustache, the rambling acceptance speech all prompted fellow nominee Don Cheadle to sign ‘wrap it up’ over Zoom – it’s the whole package.

Olivia Colman’s reactions to everything (including pets)

Find someone who looks at you the way Olivia Colman looks at… anything. From her rapturous applause and dancing for fellow The Crown stars winning their Globes to her obvious delight at Sarah Paulson’s dog and Emma Corrin’s cat, Colman was having a whale of a time. We only wish we could bring that energy to our Monday morning Zoom.
