A Bicycle that lets you go on the run?

Harder than it looks: Victoria Stewart puts the Elliptigo Bike through its paces

Elliptigo bike

What? The world's first elliptical bike. Like a fusion between a cross trainer and a road bicycle but designed to mimic a person's running motion with minimal impact.

How hard was it? Harder than it looks. You set off by striding forward on two moveable platforms as if on a cross trainer in a gym. Not being entirely natural, it is important not to think too hard about it. As my trainer John Geller reminded me, it is easier to propel yourself forward if your neck and shoulders stay upright and your feet keep in constant contact with the bike. Depending on how hard you want to work you can choose from a selection of drive gears. I definitely experienced a decent thigh burn.

Calories burned?
From 145 in 20 minutes.

Ready for more? I'm not enough of
an attention seeker for this - for outdoor exercise, I'd rather continue running or cycling normally. That said, if I suffered knee problems,
this would be a good replacement or complement to running on hard ground as there is far less impact.

Try it out: ElliptiGO 8S bikes are £1,999 inc VAT and delivery from elliptigo.co.uk
