I’m suddenly seeing a lot of men carrying document holders — why?

It’s inelegant to stuff anything in suit pockets that creates a bulge and interrupts your tailored silhouette. For that reason I don’t carry a bulky wallet, I use a slim cardholder instead. Rather than be weighed down with a bag, take a document holder (aka folio, but resolutely not a man clutch, please). It’s like an oversized wallet to accommodate your phone, keys, money, tablet, notebook, pen and copy of ES. I like the quirkiness of Paul Smith and Comme des Garçons, but for something more traditional, Holdall & Co (above, from £185) won’t leave you too light of pocket.

THOM SWEENEY

Remember when Becks delivered the Olympic torch in a speedboat down the Thames? He was wearing a suit from Thom Sweeney, London’s coolest tailors. Until now the company has only done bespoke. Pricey. This month it launched its first ready-to-wear collection, starting from £895. Not quite as pricey.
