#AHeart4LDN: why you will see crafted hearts in parts of Central London tomorrow

Crafters around the country have created crocheted, knitted, patchwork and origami hearts to decorate London, to spread love after the Manchester and London terror attacks

Tomorrow, visitors to the recently reopened Borough Market might spot some crafty, decorative additions to the iconic trading space.

A peaceful movement called #AHeart4LDN will be taking to the streets to transform the city with colourful homemade hearts created by crafters from all over the world.

Over the past few weeks, hundreds of people have been paying their respects to the victims who lost their lives in the devastating London Bridge attacks by sending these personalised hearts to be hung in and around London Bridge, using the hashtag #AHeartForLondon to rally others.

Wondering how you can get involved? Here’s everything you need to know.

What is #AHeartForLondon?

Using the hashtag, London-based founder Rachel Jeffs has called on creative individuals to post hundreds of hearts in a mass show of support for the victims of the attacks.

The hearts have been knitted, crocheted, hand drawn and made from more unusual materials such as wood and wire.

In a similar way to yarnbombing, the guerrilla movement will be taking to the streets tomorrow to colour the city with these heartfelt tributes.

Jeffs says the movement was originally started in Manchester after the devastating Arena attacks.

“I was part of #AHEART4MCR (A Heart for Manchester) initially which Beth Clarke set up, “ she told The Evening Standard. “I saw the support from people worldwide and felt proud to be part of it.

“On 4th June, I heard the news about the attack in London and I knew instantly that I wanted to do the same for them,” she added.
