Candy Crush has been played over one trillion times

Candy Crush has just celebrated its fifth anniversary – and the hit game app has released some astonishing statistics about its popularity.

Developer King has revealed that 1.1 trillion rounds have been played across the three Candy Crush games – Candy Crush Saga, Candy Crush Soda Saga, and Candy Crush Jelly Saga.

The apps have been downloaded a total number of 2.73 billion times.

The Candy Crush games task players with aligning three or more of the same candy symbols in a row to eliminate them and earn points.

Players have to reach a particular score within a set amount of moves to progress to the next stage.

Since Candy Crush Saga launched in 2012, over 2,800 levels have been featured in the games.

While the apps remain hugely popular, a scientific study conducted in 2015 looked into Candy Crush’s addictive qualities.

The results, published in the journal Telematics and Informatics, showed that 7.3% of the participants in the study were considered to be addicted, according to the classic definition of the term.

The study, conducted in China, looked into players’ sense of gratification and self-control in relation to mobile social game use.

The Candy Crush games are free to download from the iOS and Android app stores, but offer in-app purchases for users to buy extra moves, lives, and items.
