David Williams: brave the outdoors with Braven

Quality sound: Braven BRV-X, £199

It’s great having a portable speaker in the car for camping trips or stop-offs but there’s always the worry it won’t take the rough and tumble — or a soaking in a downpour.

There are no such concerns about the rugged Braven BRV-X; it’s a waterproof Bluetooth speaker that you can confidently hang up outside the tent or perch on your car roof. It sounds good too, with a rounded and deep tone. There’s an “outdoor” button that projects the soundwaves further, although with a loss in sound quality. The Braven, which measures approximately 23x8.5x7cms and which has a claimed 12+ hours battery life, also has a USB outlet to power up your smartphone. It can loop over objects, comes with a 3.5mm line-in and AUX port and costs £199 from Braven.eu or stockists online.
