Baby names are like fashion trends, they ebb in and out of style. But like leg warmers and low-rise jeans, there are some baby names that are set to become extinct.

Parenting website Mother and Baby has created a list of names that are at risk of extinction in 2019.

Sharon, Neville and Wayne are among the more common of the 12 names expected to go extinct, accompanied by Geoffrey, Paula, Malcolm and Sally.

Elaine, Derek, Doris, Clarence and Wendy round off the predictions.

Earlier this month we reported that the names Craig, Kirsty and Lee could also face extinction.

Research from the team at The Guardian of a 2018 report from the Office for National Statistics found there has been drastic changes in baby names between the years of 1996 and 2017 – with just 25 babies being called Craig in 2017 down from 705 in 1995, a 96.5 per cent decrease.

The research also listed Jordan, Lee, Scot, Macauley, Kieran, Ross, Ashley, Mitchell and Shane as the boy’s names heading towards extinction and Kirsty, Shannon, Jodie, Gemma, Danielle, Lauren, Kayleigh, Jade, Rachael and Rhiannon as the girls names facing extinction.
