The battle of the army girls goes to Defbodycon 1

Let’s not get bogged down in the detail. Once you’ve tried to untie the tangle of a general, a former CIA director, his mistress and her rival (not forgetting a cameo from Agent Shirtless) there is only one thing to focus on in this US military scandal — and that’s the bodycon dressing.

Look, I don’t wish to trivialise the fact that the top man in US intelligence, David Petraeus, has had to resign for having an affair (the naughty devil) with his biographer, Paula Broadwell. Nor do I have any lack of appreciation for the alleged threatening emails that Broadwell sent to Petraeus’s friend Jill Kelley — or how sexy Kelley’s 30,000 pages of email exchanges with nearly-Nato commmander General John Allen may or may not have become. But, really seriously, have you seen these women’s outfits? This is a closet operation carried out with true military precision. The tailoring is uniform, the colours are in blocks and the guns are out.

With shoulders and arms like fitness fanatic Broadwell’s, why not put them on parade? Since she hasn’t been seen since the scandal broke, her selection of sleeveless dresses for her book launch was an unwitting pre-emptive strike. But there has been retaliation by Kelley, who has been defining her own regimental colours over the last two days, first with a bright yellow shift and now in pink — positioning her own advantages. If there is any battle to be had, it’s in their walk-in wardrobes.
