The London best: sleep aids

25 October 2012

Virginia Woolf called sleep “that deplorable curtailment of the joy of life”. Yet most of London now fantasises about eight hours uninterrupted by the strepitous sex sessions of foxes or the early sounding of the alarm. With the clocks going back on Sunday, here are ways to ensure you make the most of that extra hour.

1. Deep Sleep Pillow Talk from This Works

This duo — containing lavender and camomile — should help you reach nature’s sweet restorer a little sooner. Apply the inhaler roll before bed and spritz your pillow with the mist. (£20, thisworks.com)

2. Sleep Mask by Dreamweaver

If streetlights are stopping your snoozing or you need shuteye during the day, try a mask. Dreamweaver’s looks like a superhero disguise and is moulded so it does not press against your eyes. (£6.50, thesnoozery.co.uk)

3. Aromatherapy Associates Deep Relax Bath & Shower Oil

This bath oil contains vetivert, camomile and sandalwood to knock you out. A little painful on the pocket, but you only need a few drops. (£37 for 55ml, spacenk.com)

4. MindSpa Personal Development System

Ignore the ridiculous name: this gadget uses light and sounds to help you doze off. (£225, meditationsuk.com)

5. Spa Intercontinental’s dry flotation bed

And if you are really too pushed for time to slumber a little longer, 20 minutes of this spa treatment is said to be equivalent to four hours sleep. Perfect for jet lag, too, apparently. (£22.50, Park Lane, Spaintercontinental.com, 020 7318 8691)
