London's transports of delight finally arrive in your home

You wait ages for some London Transport themed homeware - then it all comes along at once. From espresso cups embellished with Harry Becks's Tube map and artworks made from the black and white destination blinds on the front of the old Routemasters to Travelcard cushions, designers are all jumping on the bus.

They include Cath Kidston with her Routemaster iPhone case, eco-product designer Trent Jennings with his acrylic lamps and recycled plastic key hooks, Margo Selby and People Will Always Need Plates with their cushions, and Show and Tell Design with a laser-etched acrylic coffee table. And of course Tom Dixon started it with his wooden Oyster-card holder etched with a Routemaster.

According to Jennings: "The Underground is such a keystone of people's experience of London that if you have lived in London or visited London, it's a great anchor for those memories." Most Londoners might prefer to forget, but Charlie Gladstone of Pedlars thinks it is down to the fact that London souvenirs are no longer naff. "They are credible in the way they never used to be, as they contain elements of place and nostalgia."

He has acquired more than 50,000 original Routemaster destination blinds which are selling like hot cakes.

Nothing is too kitsch. Remember that fuzzy moquette fabric Underground seating was made from? The London Transport Museum Shop has a range, from aprons to ottomans, featuring the design. John Lewis can't be far away. Hang on, it's just started selling Routemaster trays and tea towels...
