A Caribbean hideaway

Easy living: Petit St Vincent is the ultimate retreat
Jo Fernandez10 April 2012

Known locally as PSV, Petit St Vincent is a 135-acre island, 40 miles south of St Vincent and the Grenadines in the Windward Islands.

Characterised by densely forested hills surrounded by coral sands, it is one for those who seek the ultimate hideaway, with no airport, keys or even televisions.

When it reopens next month the resort will unveil 22 cottages built from native blue bitch stone, with terracotta and limestone tile floors, new peaked ceilings made from purpleheart hardwood and cedar wood pavilions strung with hammocks. New furniture hewn from teak and local driftwood will echo material used in the spa, which itself is also built from coconut trees and other natural woods topped by local grass thatch.

For a break from all that splendid isolation, a weekly open-air cinema will show films such as Casablanca and early James Bond movies.

From £650 per cottage full-board with use of all non-motorised water sports and speedboat transfer from Union Island (fly to Barbados then on
to Union Island, US$320 one-way, svgair.com).
