Sprawling sea views and cultural flair make for a statement Barcelona hotel...

Where is it? On the beach facing the Port Olímpic Marina. There are extensive patios and gardens, which offer a sense of escapism in the city. With sprawling views of both Barcelona and the Mediterranean, this is a fabulous spot.

Style

The art-inspired hotel combines the colourful heritage of Barcelona with all the perks of a luxury beach escape.

In every room and hall you will find an original piece of Spanish art by the likes of Jaime Tresserra and Manolo Valdés.

The building itself is an architectural feat. Bruce Graham was commissioned to create the monumental project in 1991 for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. It opened its doors as Hotel Arts in 1994 and is still a striking component of the city's skyline.

Alongside miles of pristine beaches with a view overlooking Frank Gehry’s El Peix 52-metre golden fish sculpture, this is where sea and land merge. There is also a new infinity pool, pictured below, which is rather breathtaking.

The interiors are warm and welcoming, with woods and sumptuous fabrics creating a refined look. The flowers add a beautiful finishing touch. Botanical expert Donna Stain renews the arrangements on a weekly basis.

Food & Drink

There is a major culinary focus at Hotel Arts. In fact, the fine dining restaurant Enoteca is the only restaurant in Barcelona to hold two Michelin stars.

Described as the heart and soul of contemporary Mediterranean cuisine, this is a gourmet experience with a creative edge. Textures, flavours, colours and aromas are taken very seriously and the results are wonderful.

Chef Paco Pérez, who has a total of five Michelin stars under his belt, gives emphasis to local products and fresh seafood. The wine cellar also houses more than 700 labels.

This may be the signature culinary spot but there are four other great restaurants onsite as well. Whether you fancy a light bite by the pool or some tasty tapas, there is something for every mood.

Wellbeing

The 43rd-story spa, with endless sea views, is a tranquil environment with wellness at the core. Book in for a vitamin C based Summer care treatment to revitalise your skin. Or simply make use of the facilities which include two separate bathing areas, for men and women, each equipped with a hydrotherapy pool, dry sauna, steam bath, shower, relaxation area and outdoor terrace.

Which room?

There are 483 sea or city view rooms, including 56 executive suites, the Arts suite, Mediterranean Suite, 28 duplex Penthouses, The Royal Penthouse and The Presidential Penthouse; each room has wraparound views over the city and the Mediterranean. You cannot really go wrong.

However, the duplexes are truly magnificent. The two-story apartments located on the top floors, with furniture by designer Jaime Tresserra, have their own private reception area and access to the club lounge. There is even a Mini Cooper on hand to help you navigate around in style.
