Inside Islas Secas, the exclusive new destination to add to your 2020 bucket list

Eco-friendly, incredibly private and brimming with wildlife, this Panama hotspot ticks all the boxes
1/48

A privately owned archipelago sitting pretty on Panama’s Pacific Coast is set to open this December.

Islas Secas, with room for just 18 guests, is in the Gulf of Chiriquí where marine life is abundant.

Whale sharks, bottlenose dolphins and giant manta rays cruise just below the ocean’s glistening surface, but for intrepid travellers, the real draw will be the off-grid charm, as the archipelago is 20 miles from civilisation.

Rooms here come in the form of private villas or ‘casitas’ all occupying one of the 14 islands in the archipelago. Ranging from one to four bedrooms, the casitas are nestled among the foliage-heavy landscape, all offering sea views.

Inspired by the natural surroundings, the casitas maximise the natural light and warm breeze with their louvered slats, while king size beds fitted with crisp linens make for a heavenly place to rest. Bathrooms are expansive, and the indoor-outdoor showers offer a romantic touch.

The resort is also leading the new-age sustainability charge: eco-credentials include 100 per cent solar-powered energy, the recycling of all food waste, waste water is re-used for irrigation and all guests are provided with a reusable water bottle on arrival.
