Luxe lodge: the five-star Little Nell in Aspen has six new suites ready for the winter season

The laid-back yet moneyed Rocky Mountain resort of Aspen, once a humble mining town, is undoubtedly one of the most glamorous ski destinations in the world.

With a prime location at the base of the gondola, the five-star Little Nell is one of the town’s grand dames — a ski-in, ski-out hotel with a reputation both for its service and après-ski scene.

Open all year round, it has just unveiled six new suites in time for the winter season. The hotel already had the coveted view of Aspen Mountain but Chicago-based interior designer Holly Hunt, who previously chucked out the chintz here, has again waved a pale wand over the décor, with shades of white, grey and blue, wooden floors, artwork and expansive fireplaces, for that luxe lodge effect.

The hotel’s fine dining restaurant, element 47, is famed for its 20,000-bottle wine cellar and contemporary cuisine, with locally sourced produce including meat raised on Colorado ranches and river salmon.
