Year in Review: What made us smile in 2015

Marta Portocarrero30 December 2015

The news may often seem to be filled with nothing but death, disease and destruction.

But as 2015 comes to an end, we take a look back at the events that have helped lift spirits around the world.

From the eradication of the Ebola virus in Liberia and Sierra Leone, to Ireland’s vote for same-sex marriage, or Nasa’s stunning pictures of Pluto, throughout 2015 we have had many reasons to smile.

Here in the UK, Brits were generous and gave a disabled pensioner a new home, while in New York prejudice was put to one side as the first ever Down's Syndrome model took part in Fashion Week.

Let's hope by the end of 2016, we will have plenty of other moments to share. Happy New Year!
