You beauty! Hersheson's Tin

Annabel Rivkin's cabinet of wonders

I like the Daniel Hersheson salon because it feels like it’s stuffed with session stylists rather than slightly jaded hair-bots who are waiting, like hookers, for the next St John’s Wood blow-dry client to appear.Yes, the Hersheson guys are trained to do a brilliant backcomb ’n’ bounce (to which I am occasionally partial), but if you ask for an up-do (try the miraculous Vicky), you don’t get Miss World runway, you get ready-to-wear catwalk. And if you ask for caramel lowlights (book the awesome Andre), you won’t get bright gold stripes.

And the whole thing is done against a backdrop of low-level fashion buzz. Lots of editors, many faces. Now Hershesons has launched products. Not the shampoo and conditioner that every other salon squeezes out. No. It has hairpieces that look like human hair but aren’t; they are high-performing, satisfying and ethical. Bonus.

And now it is producing these small steel tins full of the hair bits and bobs you always need and always lose. Pins and grips and bands. I love the tiny but muscular clear bands. Thousands of ’em (about 50) snuggling in a tin rather than rattling round my handbag picking up fluff.

Designed to be invisible, they have that model-off-duty appeal and they’re snagless, avoiding the rippety-ouch dance around the bathroom that happens when a hair band gets stuck and you stop negotiating with the claustrophobic tangling and TEAR it out. Eyewatering stuff, that.
