Actor Alan Rickman joined horse racing fans at the Qatar Goodwood Festival today.

The Harry Potter star, 69, was accompanied by his wife Rima Horton at the annual event in Chichester.

Rickman, who is set to star in upcoming thriller Eye in the Sky with Helen Mirren, posed for photographs with swing band Elle & The Pocket Belles.

Today at the races French superstar Solow proved too good for the gallant Arod.

Winning jockey Maxime Guyon was never in panic mode - and the odds-on favourite did it nicely by half a length.

Delighted trainer Freddy Head said: "Maxime rides him very well, he's very confident. He's a great rider for his young age.

"I love coming to England and I like to go abroad, to go to America for the top-class races. If you have a top-class horse that is what you should do - you train for that.

"His next race will be the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot in October."
