The world’s first Facebook science lesson and a song-writing masterclass with chart-topper Emeli Sande are among a series of events at the Royal Albert Hall in a bid to encourage children to take up music.

Soul singer Sande, 25, won a Brit critics’ choice award and her debut album, Our Version of Events, went to number one.

She will lead a songwriting workshop for underprivileged children before taking to the venue’s stage for her first solo performance in November. Her involvement is a huge boost for the hall’s education programme, which works with more than 100,000 children a year.

Albert Hall chief executive Chris Cotton said: “We’re not just a music venue, we offer education in the arts and sciences to support the cultural life of future generations.”
