Disgraced footballer Adam Johnson has shared a photo of himself hugging his baby daughter as he prepares for a long stint behind bars.

The ex-England and Sunderland player was told to “say goodbye” to 13-month-old Ayla by the judge at his trial after being convicted of sexual activity with a child.

The black and white picture was shared on messaging service WhatsApp and shows Johnson holding onto his daughter, who wears a Sunderland shirt with his squad number 11 and “Daddy” written on it.

The former England international faces up to 10 years in jail after being found guilty of intimately touching a 15-year-old schoolgirl.

He also admitted kissing and grooming her but was cleared on another count of sexual activity with the teenager.

He was granted bail by Judge Jonathan Rose ahead of sentencing later this month.

The judge said: “You will be getting a significant custodial sentence when we next meet …

“I am giving bail so you can say goodbye to your baby daughter and anticipate a prison sentence that means you will not see her for some time."
