A motorcyclist has died following a collision with a lorry in east London.

Police said the biker, in his forties, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on West India Dock Road, Westferry, shortly after 8.15pm last night.

Ambulance crew found the man suffering from "serious head injuries" after the smash, police said.

The driver of the lorry, who stopped at the scene, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is being questioned at an east London police station.

Next of kin are yet to be informed and a post mortem will be held in due course, Scotland Yard added.

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for information about the collision.

Witnesses should contact police on 0208 991 9555 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
