Police have released CCTV in a bid to trace a driver after a cyclist had his neck and both legs broken in a hit and run in Brixton.

The 44-year-old cyclist was rushed to hospital after suffering life threatening injuries in the crash shortly after midnight on Saturday March 15.

The man was cycling across a pedestrian crossing on Brixton Road Sw9 at 12.15am when he was hit by the car, described only as dark or black by police.

Officers said the driver failed to stop, leaving the victim lying in the road with two broken legs and a fractured neck.

Detective Sergeant John Hartfree from the Met's Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "We need to locate the car involved and speak to the driver as soon as possible.

"The victim was left lying in the road having suffered very serious injuries.

"I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information, regarding the identity of the driver or whereabouts of the car to contact police.

Witnesses can call 020 8941 9011 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
