A cleaner is facing jail despite being cleared of three murders in three Old Bailey trials.

Nana Oppong, 34, was convicted of being part of a gang which kicked, punched and stabbed a victim outside a private party in Dagenham.

Ashley Latty, 25, died of multiple stab wounds to the back and chest in the fight outside The Beaver Centre last May.

Oppong, of Stratford, was cleared of murder but had earlier pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Of the seven defendants charged with murder only two were convicted. Two others were found guilty of attempted GBH with intent.

They will all be sentenced on Monday by Judge Stephen Gullick.

In 2012 Oppong was cleared of two murders following two trials of what was known as the Sugar Lounge murders.

The Old Bailey heard how a quiet Forest Gate street was turned into a scene from a Quentin Tarantino film after a party to celebrate Oppong’s birthday.

Two defendants were jailed for life but Oppong was found not guilty of double murder and firearm charges when the two juries were unable to agree a verdict.

However he was jailed for two years after being found guilty of perverting justice.

The court was told the street was covered in blood and littered with bullets from four guns.

One gunman was found guilty of two murders and another was convicted of murder and attempted murder. Between them they were ordered to serve a minimum total of 68 years imprisonment.

Oppong had also been cleared of an earlier murder in 1999.

In the current trial Latty, of Leyton, was said to have been standing outside the Beaver Centre entrance at about 5.30am with friends

Said prosecutor Simon Denison QC: “One or more of the seven defendants had spotted him and it was decided (among some of them) to inflict upon him severe violence.

“We do not know why and it does not matter why. What they did had no legal justification.”

He added: “At least one of them had a knife. One of them picked up a bottle.”

Doctors battled to keep Ashley’s heart beating until he arrived at hospital but he was pronounced dead at 7.15.

“He didn’t stand a chance,” said Mr Denison. “It was sudden, sustained, utterly brutal and without mercy.”

Nicholas Terrelonge, 28 of Leytonstone, and Tyler Burton, 29 of Ilford were found guilty of murder.

Kestrel Dyer, 25, of Barking, and Jerome Joseph, 28, of Manor Park, were found not guilty of murder but convicted of attempted GBH with intent.

Daniel Agyeman, 24, of Thornton Heath, and Damien Carnegie, 29 of Leytonstone, were both cleared of both charges. Dyer’s girlfriend Aimee Penfold, 25 of Epsom, was also cleared of perverting the course of justice.
