A thug who lunged at an NHS doctor with a hunting knife during an attempted robbery at a hospital has been jailed.

Enver Francis, 18, from Peckham, pulled a blade on the medic after claiming he wanted to buy a PlayStation from him.

The doctor had advertised the console online and Francis arranged to meet him at Whittington Hospital in Archway, north London where he was working a shift.

After the sale was agreed the victim, in his twenties, asked to see the money at which point Francis pulled out the blade and threatened him.

The young medic had left the console behind a locked door operated by a key fob which the would-be robber tried to grab and then punched him in the ribs, Snaresbrook crown court had heard.

A passer-by intervened and called security at which point Francis ran away.

However, he was identified through CCTV evidence and was arrested at home.

Officers searched his property and found a stash of £1,120 in counterfeit cash.

He was sentenced to two years in jail for attempted robbery, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of counterfeit money on Tuesday.

Francis was also ordered to pay the victim a total of £156 in compensation.

Detective Constable Ishmael Donegan, from Central North Basic Command Unit, said: “Francis travelled across London armed with a hunting knife after contacting the victim through an online buying and selling website.

“He showed no regard for the victim’s safety who could’ve sustained serious injury.

“I ask that sellers and buyers on marketplace websites be extra cautious when meeting individuals in person.

“The swift investigation conducted by Central North’s Robbery Squad and the Violence Suppression Unit ensured Francis was identified and arrested mere days after the incident. I would also like to praise the security guards who pursued Francis not knowing that he was armed with a knife.

“Combating robbers and knife carriers is a priority for the Met and we will continue to pursue these individuals.”

Francis was also charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.

He pleaded guilty to attempted robbery, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of counterfeit currency for intent at the same court on May 27.
