Police have arrested a man after a pile-up involving at least 12 vehicles left a trail of destruction and three people in hospital.

Emergency teams were called at around 3.30pm this afternoon to reports of major collision on London Road, in Southborough, Kent.

Fire crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to rescue a man and a woman trapped following the crash, but no one involved is thought to have suffered life-threatening injuries, a spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said.

Police, ambulance and fire officers remain at the scene amid local road closures as a clear-up operation was under way.
