Firefighters were forced to cut the roof off a police car to free two injured officers after a crash in north-east London.

The marked police vehicle was involved in a collision with another car at Gants Hill roundabout, Ilford, at about 5.20pm on Thursday.

Both officers were treated for injuries by the London Ambulance Service and taken to an east London hopsital, where they were later discharged.

Scotland Yard confirmed the car was not involved in a pursuit at the time.

Several people took to social media to share photos of the damaged car, which was surrounded by firefighters with the roof pictured lying in the road nearby.
