The severely injured body of a pensioner was discovered by police called to a break in today.

Officers from attended the house in Hazlebury Road, Fulham, at around 6.20am when they came across the grisly find.

The 73-year-old man - who had been the victim of a violent attack - was pronounced dead at the scene, a Scotland Yard spokesman said.

They added: "There were other people in the house at the time but none of them were injured."

His next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place soon.

No one has been arrested and the investigation, which is in its early stages, continues, the spokesman said.

He added: "Police have carried out initial house to house inquiries and are in the process of forensically examining the scene.

"There have been no arrests at this stage and enquiries continue. We are keeping and open mind as to the motive at this very early stage."
