A woman commuter was spat at, punched and kicked whilst sprawled on a Tube platform in central London today.

Detectives investigating the “violent assault” on Monday took the unusual step of releasing a CCTV image of a man they urgently need to identify.

The victim, in her 50s, had her eyes closed on a Jubilee line train when she realised a man was trying to unzip her bag shortly before 11am on Monday , February 22.

She challenged the suspect before getting off at Green Park station.

But he spat at her before punching her in the face and kicking her a number of times as she collapsed on the ground.

The woman was taken to hospital with concussion.

Officers believe the man in the image may have information which could help their investigation.

British Transport Police want anyone who recognises him or has information to contact them by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 142 of 22/02/21.
