Three men and a 13-year-old boy have been charged after footage of an attack on police officers in Hackney was widely shared online.

All four were charged with assaulting emergency workers and will appear at Thames Magistrates' Court this morning.

A video of the incident, circulated on social media, showed an officer pinned down on the ground and being kicked. His female colleague is seen being pushed when she tries to intervene.

Several men, including one with a baseball bat, could be seen surrounding the officers, swearing, shouting and filming on their phones, with one even dancing around and taking a selfie during the assault.

Home Secretary Priti Patel is among those to have condemned the incident, which took place at around 3.30pm on Frampton Park Road in Hackney on Wednesday.

Hackney MPS tweeted on Friday morning: "It’s pleasing to report that following an investigation into Tuesday’s incident in Frampton Park Road, three men and a 13 yr old boy have been charged with assaulting emergency workers.

"They will attend court today. Thank you so much for your messages of support."

Superintendent Martin Rolston said: “This incident, which was captured on someone’s mobile phone is truly shocking.

“My officers went to the assistance of a member of the public, who asked for their help, after stating that they had been assaulted.

“What happened next is a reminder of the risks our officers take whilst going about their duties."

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said in his own public message: “I utterly condemn the disgraceful attack on two Metropolitan Police officers this afternoon.

“These brave officers were doing their duty and assisting the public.

“We owe them a debt of gratitude and I wish them a full and speedy recovery.

“Attacks on our police will not be tolerated.

“I urge anyone with information to come forward to ensure the perpetrators of this disgusting attack feel the full force of the law."
