A man has been stabbed to death during a fight in a barber’s shop in north London, becoming the eighth person to die from knife crime on the capital's streets in just two weeks.
Paramedics tried to save the man, believed to be aged in his 30s, but he was pronounced dead near Central Middlesex Hospital at 3.20pm on Friday.
He is believed to have been knifed during a fight at Cutz Barber's Shop on Craven Park Road in Harlesden around 2pm and was attempting to get to the hospital.
A cordon was erected on the street and traffic was being diverted while police officers scoured the scene, near Harlesden Library.
Harlesden residents took to social media to report seeing a man stabbed at a "barbers shop". One wrote: "This is horrific."
Another added: "Harlesden chaos after another stabbing. How can we stop this?"
A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called by London Ambulance Service at approximately 14:10hrs on Friday, 5 May to reports of man suffering stab injuries near Central Middlesex Hospital, NW10.
“The LAS treated the man, believed aged in his 30s, but he was pronounced dead at the scene at 15:20hrs.
“Officers have since established that the man was injured following an incident in Craven Park Road, NW10.”
There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.
The latest killing comes after a fortnight of bloodshed on London’s streets in which seven other men died from knife attacks.
Seun Mcmillan, 23, was the most recent to die on Tuesday night after he was stabbed in Barnet.
A 20-year-old woman was also stabbed to death at a home in Mile End, bringing the total deaths up to nine in 11 days.
The Met has responded by launching an 80-strong task force to be deployed to trouble spots to curb flare-ups of violence and is understood to have increased stop and search in knife crime hotspots.
In a week long operation officers and police cadets are carrying out test purchases of knives in stores and promoting “amnesty bins” for knives around London.
Police carrying out weapon sweeps on Operation Sceptre patrols have already uncovered an array of knives hidden by gangs.
