A driver was arrested after a London bus and a car were involved in a dramatic crash in Islington.

Debris was left strewn across the road following the crash between a black car and route number 271 bus on Holloway Road early this morning.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of the collision at 3.10am.

Both drivers were treated for minor injuries by paramedics at the scene, police said. It was not immediately clear which of the drivers was arrested.

The Met’s Roads and Transport Twitter account posted a picture of the aftermath of the crash and wrote: “#CabsUnit officers just witnessed this accident in @MPSIslington. Driver arrested for drunk/drug driving.

“As a result, Holloway Road between Palmer Place and Hornsey Road is currently closed both directions.”

The London Fire Brigade also attended.

The road remained closed for more than three hours after the collision as police investigated.

Tony Akers, TfL’s Head of Bus Operations, said: “At 3am on 29 July, a route 271 double deck bus, operated by Metroline, and a car collided in Holloway Road near its junction with George’s Road. Emergency services attended the scene. There will be a full investigation into the incident.”
