Detectives are hunting a suspected hit and run driver in a black BMW after a man was run over and killed in east London early this morning.

The victim, thought to have been on foot, died at the scene following the collision in Hornchurch just after midnight.

Scotland Yard said it was "urgently appealing" for information about the driver of a black BMW 3 series thought to have been involved.

Officers were this morning reviewing CCTV from the area around Hornchurch Road in the hope of finding clues as to the car's whereabouts and driver. Police believe the car had two vehicles accompanying it.
