A man staggered into a pub for help after being stabbed in a north London high street last night.

The 39-year-old victim is believed to have sought refuge in the Hornsey Tavern after being stabbed about 30 metres away.

He was treated by a nurse who was at the bar in St Mary's Road after the incident in Hornsey before paramedics and police arrived.

Staff at the pub, which has been closed while police investigate, wrote on its Facebook page: "So a lad off the estate has been stabbed. He came into the pub looking for help.

"We had a nurse at the bar who assisted and police/ambulance were called. He has been taken to hospital and appears to be ok!"

A spokesman for the Met Police confirmed they were called at 9.10pm last night to reports a man had been stabbed in the High Street.

He said: "Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and the man, aged 39, was taken to an east London hospital for treatment.

"He remains there in a serious but stable condition."

There have been no arrests so far, police said.
