Police are hunting a lone knifeman after a mother of two was stabbed to death in her flat in east London.

Amina Bibi, 43, died from multiple stab wounds after she was attacked in her home in Forest Gate.

Scotland Yard only released details of the attack this afternoon four days after it took place just before 9am last Friday.

Paramedics were called to reports of a stabbing at a ground floor flat in George Carver House, Station Road at 8.52am.

Ms Bibi was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are investigating one possibility that she was attacked after disturbing a burglar.

Detective Chief Inspector David Whellams, who is leading the inquiry, said : "I believe we are looking for a lone suspect, a man who made off from the scene on foot along Forest Street in the direction of Field Road.

"It is likely that this man would have been bloodstained and was possibly carrying some clothing."

There have been no arrests.

Anyone with information should call the incident room on 020 8345 3775 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
