The family of a young father stabbed to death in north London say they are desperate to smash the “wall of silence” protecting his killers.

Jonathan McPhillips, 28, died in hospital three days after he was attacked during a night out in Islington on February 25.

The father of two, known as JJ, had tried to shield a teenage friend from a gang who ambushed them outside the Assembly Hall in Upper Street.

His mother Michelle, who saw her son being treated by paramedics, said: “I don’t believe in gangs, I don’t believe in bullies, and I brought him up like that. I said to JJ’s mates — I do not want revenge on the streets. I want his killer in prison.”

She added: “There is a wall of silence, people think they’re being clever — but by not talking, are you the next victim?”

Five men have been arrested on suspicion of murder and bailed.

Anyone with information should call 020 8345 3775, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
