The Las Vegas Strip switched off its bright lights to honour those killed in last week's mass shooting.

Hotels and casinos along the famous row of bars, casinos and hotels went dark on Sunday as hundreds of mourners turned out to attend a candlelit vigil one week on from the horrific massacre.

Exterior lights were turned off for 11 minutes between 10.05 to 10.16pm - the exact time and duration of the gunfire on October 1.

Approximately 22,000 people were attending the third day of the Route 91 Harvest country music festival in Las Vegas when Stephen Paddock opened fire from his hotel room.

Paddock killed 58 people and injured a further 527 before allegedly committing suicide, making this the worst mass shooting ever seen in the US.

The Red Cross has set up a family assistance centre in Las Vegas to support survivors.

Bill Fortune, a Red Cross spokesman, said: "A week into this, a lot of people have been numb. Some of those emotional crises are just showing up today, where people can't get out of bed. People have called saying they can't be in crowds."

In Paris, the lights of the Eiffel Tower were also turned off as a mark of solidarity.

Police have yet to establish Paddock's motive and the investigation is ongoing.
